Our chapter was organized on December 7, 1913, in Yankton, South Dakota. The chapter is named for Daniel Newcomb, who was born on April 19, 1747, in Massachusetts. Daniel served in the American Revolution by offering patriotic service in New Hampshire. He was a justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court as well as a member of the New Hampshire state senate. Daniel Newcomb procured the first bell for the town of Keene, New Hampshire, and its first church. He was the ancestor of Katherine Roy Stevens, one of our first chapter regents.
